City Looks to Address Speeding in Lake Park

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)- Winona city leaders are grappling with vehicles driving at high rates of speed in Lake Park.

“I’ve heard from many people, even from some city employees, of vehicles passing through there at a pretty good amount of speed,” Fourth Ward Councilman George Borzyskowski during the council concerns portion of Monday’s meeting. He said the area of most concern is near the Every Child’s Dream playground.

A popular solution being floated is reducing the speed in that. City Manager Steve Sarvi says the city has tried it before.

In the past, we haven’t had much success catching speeders. The reduction in the speed limit in that area of course always falls back on enforcement,” Sarvi said. “Staff will bring something to the council in the very near future to see what that process looks like.”
