WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona Area Public Schools will keep their mask mandate in place.
The decision, announced on the district’s social media Thursday night, comes after Gov. Tim Walz he was signing an executive order rescinding his mask mandate. The order does allow businesses and local governments to keep mask mandates in place.
The governor’s announcement follows the CDC announcing vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks indoors. The majority of WAPS students are either too young to get the COVID-19 vaccine or just became eligible for shots this week.
WAPS reported no new COVID-19 infections in their dashboard update Thursday. That breaks a streak of three consecutive weeks with new infections and close contacts.
