WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The Winona City Council Monday night approved plans for Steamboat Days to return this year.
“It looks like we have a fairly rich program coming,” At-Large City Councilwoman Michelle Alexander said. “I’ve been getting comments from people all over the city asking about the car show and the parade. Everyone is kind of ready for [Steamboat Days] and I’m glad we are going to have it this year.”
As of Monday, the event will be scaled down from years past. It will feature a carnival, concessions, and beverage garden in the Levee Park area.
There will also be a shortened BK5k, municipal band concert, kid’s fishing contest, and softball, volleyball, and bean bag tournaments. The medallion hunt and golf tournament are also planned.
The parades, fireworks, and car show could happen if COVID-19 restrictions are loosened before June 1, according to Monday’s city council meeting agenda.
“We’ve all been working hard to try to be as safe as possible and put on this 2021 event,” said Steamboat Days Committee President Maynard Johnson. “We hope everybody will come to Steamboat Days and enjoy the best they can.”
Buttons for this year’s event will be on sale later this month, according to a press release from the committee. Steamboat Days 2021 runs from June 16-20.
