WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona State will hold a mattress recycling event on May 15.
The event is sponsored by the Winona State Environmental Club. Community members can bring their old mattresses or box springs to the parking lot at the corner of Huff and Sarnia Streets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers say one mattress in a landfill accounts for one cubic yard and there are 40,000 mattresses discarded in US landfills every year. The cost for recycling a mattress or box spring, regardless of condition, is $14.
