STILLWATER, Minn. (KWNO)-Former Brooklyn Center Police Officer Kim Potter is expected to be charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
Washington County Attorney Pete Orput told multiple news outlets of the charging plans Wednesday morning. The case was turned over to the Washington County Attorney’s Office to avoid a conflict of interest with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, which works closely with the Brooklyn Center Police Department.
Bodycam video shows Potter firing her service weapon at Wright after yelling taser three times during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon. Potter and Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon resigned from their posts on Tuesday.
