Reduced Vaccine Allocation Not Impacting Second Shots for Winona County

By TJ Mar 19, 2021 | 10:53 AM

(KWNO)-Last week, the Minnesota Department of Health informed Winona County officials of a reduction of their vaccine allocation.

Emergency Management Coordinator Ben Klinger said despite the county getting a third of the doses they’ve received in recent shipments, there will be enough to vaccinate people waiting for their second shots.

“MDH has always guaranteed that your second shots will be shipped,” Klinger said. “We’re good to go on the second shots.”

The county has drawn praise from state and local leaders, as well as citizens for running smooth, efficient vaccine clinics. State health officials told county health officials they’re outpacing the state in vaccinations and other areas are falling behind, therefore needing more vaccine.

Klinger says he is waiting on guidance from the state on when the vaccine supply line will become more predictable.
