WAPS Graduation 2020

(KWNO)- Gov. Tim Walz announced proms and graduation ceremonies are likely this spring as he rolled back some COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings last week.

Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) Communications Coordinator John Casper said the district will continue to follow guidelines from the Minnesota departments of health and education.

We’re slowly moving toward normalcy but we still have to acknowledge that COVID is still here,” said Casper. “We are optimistically hopeful that these events will still be able to happen.”

Casper says state agencies are recommending general event guidance for prom and the district is planning to hold a prom this year. He said the district plans to host graduation at Paul Giel Field this year but will have to wait on the number of people that can attend.

Last year’s prom was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduation was conducted in a drive-through format at Winona Senior High School.
