(KWNO)- Spring time mud has caused some trails in Winona’s park system to temporarily close.
Starting Wednesday, the soft trails in Bluffside Park will be closed to hikers and bikers. Park Rec officials say using the trails in muddy conditions causes them to erode and creates pricey repairs.
Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Alicia Lano says crews will have the trails repaired by the summer and asks residents to avoid the trails while they’re muddy.
“You know it is false spring. If we happen to get a huge snowfall and it freezes again and turns back into winter magically, the trials are frozen you’re more than welcome to come back out here,” said Lano in a Facebook video depicting the trail conditions. “While it is spring-like conditions out here please stay off the trail.”
Muddy conditions have also forced the Prairie Island Dog Park to close until further notice.
