(KWNO)- The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization for the one-shot Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine over the weekend.

“[The Johnson and Johnson vaccine] has been as rigorously tested as any of the others,” said Winona Health President/CEO Rachelle Schultz during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Monday morning. “If we get this vaccine, it will be a valuable tool in our basket.

Schulz says the one-shot regimen simplifies the vaccination process. Schultz is waiting to hear if the federal government will distribute the doses through the states or through pharmacies.

Either way, Schultz anticipates that doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine will arrive in Winona County. The Minnesota Department of Health expects the first doses of the newly-approved vaccine to arrive Monday.
