(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has opened voting to name a snowplow in each of its eight districts.
The call for names came out in December. The agency says they received 24,000 suggestions and have narrowed it down to 50.
There are references to movies – especially Star Wars with C-3PSnow, Darth Blader, Snowbi Wan Kenobi, and Luke Snowwalker. Toy Story shows up on the list with Buzz Iceclear and a Johnny Depp favorite Edward Blizzardhands. There is also a nod to Judy Garland and the Wizzard of Oz with Snow Place Like Home and Blizzard of Oz. A TV show set in Minnesota also made the list with Mary Tyler More Snow.
Songs by music superstars with Minnesota roots Bob Dylan and Prince were not forgotten. Plowin’ in the Wind, Raspberry Brrr-et, and Purple Snow made the cut. As did Prince’s famous name change to an unpronounceable symbol with The Truck Formerly Known As Plow.
There are also some things uniquely Minnesota like Princess Kay of the Snowy Way, Spirit of ’91, Plow Bunyan, Babe the Orange Snowplow, F. Salt Fitzgerald, Tater Tot Hotdish, Minnesota nICE, Lake Snowbegone, Ope – Just Gonna Plow Right Past Ya, Duck Duck Orange Truck, and L’Plow du Nord.
Professional athletes even had their names spoofed with Road Carew, Kent Brrr-bek, Justin Moresnow, Joe Plower, and Goldy Snow-pher.
Yes, Plowy McPlowface earned a spot.
You can choose up to eight names. Voting closes on February 26th. The winners will be announced in early March.
